IAEA board meeting to kick off, with focus on Iran

A UN nuclear agency will have a board meeting on Monday focusing on ways to encourage Iran to halt uranium enrichment.

The International Atomic Energy Agency will hold a regular meeting of its governing board from Monday to Friday in Vienna.

A recent IAEA report said Iran is gearing up enrichment in a new nuclear facility. It voiced concern over a possible link to nuclear weapons development.

Iran refused to allow IAEA inspectors to enter the suspected nuclear development facility when they visited the country in January and February.

At the meeting, western nations are expected to propose preparing a resolution criticizing Iran’s refusal to cooperate.

With other members more willing to monitor Iran’s next move, the board is expected to discuss ways to get Iran’s cooperation.   (*)
