On 28 June 2012 Vladimir Putin congratulated Muhammed Mursi on his election as President of Egypt, and wished him success in addressing complex, large-scale tasks to ensure national unity and promote economic restructuring.
Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the traditionally friendly Russian-Egyptian relations and expanding mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields.
Mr Putin and Mr Mursi also discussed topical international and regional issues, including the situation in Syria, and agreed to continue personal contacts. (*)
