PESHAWAR, Pakistan (AP) — A government official says gunmen in northwest Pakistan attacked a convoy carrying NATO troop supplies to Afghanistan, killing one driver and wounding two other people.

It was the first attack on a NATO convoy in Pakistan since Islamabad reopened the supply route earlier in July after a blockade of over seven months.

Faraz Khan says Tuesday’s attack occurred in Jamrud town in the Khyber tribal area. Jamrud is located very close to Torkham, one of two crossings used to transport NATO supplies to Afghanistan.

Pakistan closed the route last November in retaliation for American airstrikes that killed 24 Pakistani troops. Islamabad ended its blockade after the U.S. apologized for the deaths.

The Pakistani Taliban threatened to attack the convoys after Pakistan reopened the supply line.   (*)
