GAZA CITY (Ma’an) — Hamas chief-in-exile Khaled Meshaal offered his condolences to Egyptian President Muhammad Mursi on Monday after an attack which killed 16 police officers in the Sinai peninsula.
Meshaal phoned Mursi to condemn the attack and stressed that Hamas is concerned about the security of Egypt, a statement said.
Also Monday, Gaza Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh offered his condolences to Mursi and the families of the victims.
He suggested that a joint security commission be set-up to follow up on security issues affecting both Gaza and Egypt, adding that the security of Egypt is the security of Gaza.
Israeli authorities are behind are behind the attack in the Sinai, Haniyeh added.
Gunmen killed 16 Egyptian policemen and seized an army tank in an assault on a police station near the border with Israel on Sunday. (*)
